Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa Sri Lanka's Cabinet Spokesperson, and Health and Media Minister has stated that commemorative events associated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are not permissible in Sri Lanka.
As the LTTE remains a banned organisation under Sri Lankan law, any event featuring LTTE symbols, uniforms, or images of its members is strictly prohibited he further said. Responding to a question by a journalist at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held in Colombo yesterday he said, “People from any part of the country have the right to commemorate their deceased relatives". However, he emphasised that such events must not be misinterpreted or used as a platform to celebrate the LTTE.
