At least eight persons including 06 children are reported missing after the tractor they were onboard was derailed by flood waters. The tragic incident took place this evening in Karaitheevu in the Amparai District.
A total of 13 individuals including 11 boys, were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the incident. According to Police five children upto now, have been rescued. Additional reports from the location said, that, the tractor was en route to Sammanthurai from Ninthavur when it was derailed due to strong flood water currents near a bridge located in the Karaitheevu town.
A group of eleven students returning home after attending a Madrasa school in Ninthavur and the tractors driver and his assistant who were onbboard the tractor when it was overturned by the flood waters the police further said.
